If you want to see some really ridiculous names, just have a look at the baby naming section of YA - I am always astounded at the stuff on there. As to names I've actually come across in "real" life - well, at one point I worked at the Benefits Agency and there were some crackers - Pocahontas, Blade, Saxon - and there was one called Khadine whose mother proudly said she'd named her after a talcum powder she'd been given while she was pregnant! I knew twins called Saffron-Jade and Scarlett-Amber - were they going through a wallpaper chart or something? The ones I hate most though are all the ones which are just completely mis-spelt by some silly girl trying to be different. I hate stupid names. The kids suffer and it makes the parents look stupid. Give your kids decent names, people! They have to live with them, and if they really want a stupid name, they can change it by deed poll.

Demi Moore & Bruce Willis named their kids -

Rumer Glen
Scout LaRue
Tallulah Belle

All girls.

I have seen the "normal" change of a letter ... Tiffany is a perfect example -
Tiffani
Tiffini
Tiffiny
Tiffanie
Tiffiany
Tiffiani ...
The list goes on.
I have also seen unusual spellings for many names ... one I saw years ago and will never forget is the name Kimberly, but the spelling was Khymbherleigh. Trust me, it don't get much stranger than that!

Choosing unusual names, and going for unique spellings is fine ... I just say, how would you feel if that were Your name, and You had to Say it, Spell it and literally Teach it to others in your Kindergarten class - and honestly put yourself in your child's place as a 5 y/o - if you think your child will be teased in a cruel manner, choose a different name.
Yes, with all the unique and unusual names, it is becoming more the "norm", but not everywhere.

By the same token - don't choose a name because it's popular. Imagine yourself as that same 5 y/o in a class where you and 5 other students share the same name.
Either way is difficult.

I have a relative named Isis, a friend named Lovey, and once had a co-worker named Girly. I've gone to school with multiple Lisa's in the same grade, Kim's or Kimberly's in the same class and about the time Keanu Reeves was hitting high in popularity, just about every mom to be I knew was naming their soon to be born son Keanu. Those kids should all be between 9 and 12 years of age (can't remember how long ago it was, not a huge Keanu Reeves fan).

Patterns happen - we either follow or divert. Just choose a name you and your child can be proud of.

A boy at my school, Nigel Mycock, had a mother with the same surname and the first name Pat, but I assume Mycock was her married name.

I also knew a Dwayne Pipe, and my teacher claimed to know a girl called Annette Curtain, although I think maybe he was lying?

A baby called "It" (registered It, not just a nickname!) - I think that is worst.

I saw in the paper a kid who had been given ten names, all after professional boxers, and one who had been named after the entire Celtic football club.

And I met an Asian girl on a school trip whose grandparents had all insisted on having their names put in - she was named after all her grandparents and greatgrandparents - of both sexes, as far as I could tell. It took her about five minutes to say her full name.

My teacher (apparently) knew an Annette Curtain.

Finally, I live in Edinburgh, and Cockburn seems to be quite a common surname around here - I imagine there are lots of first names that don't work with it.

Isn't Bob a nickname for Robert? LMAO! Bobert is just stupid. Some of the worst names I've heard are celebrities children's names. David Duchovney named his son, Kyd (pronounced, kid). Another celeb named his son Pilot Inspektor! That's so awful! But Bobert I think is one of the worst I've ever heard!

my son's nick name is jugie - We call him JR and some how we got Jugie out of it.
My son's name is Francisco JR, when he was born my daughter 3 1/2 at the time didn't like that name and she called him Carl's Jr (like the fast food place) for 6 months because she thought it sounded better.
