This would be from a computer with it already installed.
I'm "not" going to actually do it, i just want to know how.
-(also if there is an easier way to get it, let me know)
--(I want to "maybe" install it in a laptop(dual boot)).

3 steps.
1. Image the hard drive to the other hard drive. Don't worry about identical hardware.
2. Have the product key for your new computer on-hand so when the question comes up you can arrange to change it.
3. Download the following program and run it on your new computer.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Security/NewSid.mspx
That should do it. The later is req'd especially if you want the 2 comp's to be able to share files.

Forgot to mention -- you will want to check licenses of any other software you have installed on the original machine to make sure you're not violating them by doing this copy.

Windows XP locks certain system files so that they can not be copied from one computer to another to prevent people "stealing" it. Even if you could successfully copy it, or use a clone program such as Ghost, it would still not work. It would detect that it is not on the same computer and refuse to activate. After 15 days, the computer would stop working.
You need to purchase a legal copy of the software to be able to install and activate it.

Copy? The only way to copy an operating system (this would include windows 98) would be to just make a copy of the installation CD. You really can't just copy the files on your computer and move them to another one, (unless the computers have the exact same hardware). You could make and Image of windows/hard drive. But again that would only really work if you were coping it over to the exact same computer (meant to be used as a backup copy).

Just to give you a little info.
Microsoft now employs a key code that is required to unlock there software. Yes you can make an exact copy of the software, but unless you know the key code that is on the packaging of the box, your copy is worthless, because you can't open it. Microsoft done this to stop pirating of there software.

I think you could use norton ghost to create a "ghost" image of your hard drive. But you will only be able to install it on the computer you made a ghost image from.
