Malibu is said to have been casued by downed power lines and Santiago Canyon/Irvine is arson. I don't think the casue has been determined in the other fires. It doesn't take much once the Santa Anas pick up around here. We call October through December fire season.

I know by living in North San Diego that it's a combination of things, drought, extreme dry vegetation, low humidity, Santa Ana winds, etc. Yes, it is sometimes due to arson or human negligence, but, I think that that has been yet to be determinded. People that live outside of California have the perception that we live in a humid, beach climate and that is so not the case. Where I live (Vista/Oceanside), there is sunshine about 320 days out of the year. But, we pay the price with these extreme conditions and the threat of fire.

Didn't George Bush start it. After all he was responsible for hurricaine Katrina and most everything bad that happens in the world people blame him for it. So why not blame him for the fires too.

Probably some accidental, probably some firebugs (arsonists). I can tell you one thing right now - my dad was in the USFS out there and this is the time where the firebugs come out sadly and try to create even more havoc.

my uk newspaper said the original fire was probably a power cable falling down, although since then at least one has been started deliberately...
