If you are coming directly from CUNY to Columbia University, then you can apply to the main undergraduate college - Columbia College. You may be able to get in if you've done at least a year at CUNY (or will have done by the end of this year), and you have at least a 3.5 GPA.

If you've taken time off from school, though, you won't be able to apply to Columbia College. You'll need to apply through their school of General Studies. That's their continuing ed program.

If you've done well at CUNY, other strong universities in the NY area that you can consider, as backups to Columbia, are New York University (elite, like Columbia - great rep) and Fordham. And of course, the best CUNY colleges are options to you - Baruch and Hunter. If you can go outside NYC, you can also consider the following good schools: Princeton, Rutgers, SUNY Stony Brook, Bard College, and Vassar.
