My late grandmother did a lot of sewing. Her house is filled with bolts of fabric of all sorts, along with sewing notions, buttons, spools of thread, etc. I have found several charities that accept donations of cotton fabric, but I don't know what to do with the synthetic fabrics -- e.g. polyester. Is there any charity that might be interested in these? Or can polyester fabric be recycled? I don't want to just dump it in a landfill -- so unecological! Thanks!

Go ahead and give it to Goodwill. They'll sell it or find uses for it in their work programs.

How about a local school? The one I used to work in often did plays or Christmas performances and needed fabric for costumes.
