First of all congratulations - I'm also the same age with two boys and am getting a little broody for a girl. How are you doing? For the cough try a home made medicine of honey and some nuts ie almonds with raisins, grindit all together and form into little balls. You can put these in your mouth and let them melt slowly. Sounds strange but it really does work. My mum used to make these for me whenever I had a cough and it used to help me sleep through the night and its tastes good.

Over the counter cough syrup should be okay. I just want to congratulate you on your pregnancy. You're never too old and the older you are, the wiser you are! My Mom had her last one at 43 yrs. old and was embarrassed to tell us because it wasn't planned and her "rhythm system" was out of tune! lol ... By the way this was the last of 10 children, but we were all excited and happy to have our new addition and she had older children that were a big help to her. Any way, I hope you feel better soon. ;-)

I had my last baby at 40. I took Sudafed, because I stayed so stuffed up the whole time. I also took Robitussin, doctor said it would be fine. I also used Halls...sometimes a teaspoon full of honey works better than anything. Is the air in your house dry, try using a humidifier, to put some moisture in the air. Congratulations.....

There are OTC things you can take for a cough. You can ask a pharmacist or your OB/GYN if you are unsure and are currently on any medicines. Drinking something warm can soothe your throat like tea, milk. If you have a persistant cough your Dr needs to notified.

You can take Robatussin. Your doctor should give you a list of safe medications to take. If you have not seen a doctor yet, you could call and ask the pharmacist.

Ask your doc, I know that I have horrible allergies and was horribly sick with both kids and we were able to tweak some meds and monitor to make sure that both of us were doing fine. Good luck.
