My idea is with all of the resources and brain power in the Capitol shouldn't each of our elected "employees" have to submit their reports on how to solve issues such as:

Healthcare, Education, ...etc?

Instead of just showing up to work to vote on something that most of them haven't even read up on.

Then the President or an assistant choose the best submissions (maybe a mix of a few dem ideas and rep ideas), then have them work as team leaders to bring it into action.

Maybe I'm simple minded, but I feel our money is being wasted. Paying for a bunch of childish employees to stand around the lunch room bickering about who has the coolest lunchbox.

Give them deadlines and keep them busy.
Or punch a time clock and save us some money.

Then maybe the top 3 submissions ( or combinations) go up for vote.

I vote for them to work and come up with ideas (hence the importance of experience).

And ALL not some must submit their best.
Also it may even work out better that the best submissions are then voted for on the State level. That would keep the Federal Government's paws out of it.

My basic point is...Wouldn't it be lovely...if our elected officials worked together and actually accomplished something?

Those in the house are already acting like a bunch of tenured profs, which is the entire problem.

We all need to take a serious look at the record of our individual reps and let those who aren't producing go at the end of this term.

No, if that were to happen None of them would have a paycheck and Forget any bonuses at the end of the year like private Industry. That premise would be founded on the fact that they produced, gained money For the People of the United States and got incentives For the American people...Not Increase the National Debt.

That would give the president way too much power. This government is based on separation of power. The president currently is very limited to what he can do without approval from congress. Giving one person too much power is more like a dictatorship than a democracy.

Sway: Good answer. Far too often people don't even know who their local representatives are.

Interesting question. The problem is that the dems have a left wing agenda that is not in line with America's best interest. Hence the low approval ratings...

Your logic is flawed, WE vote for those who are voting, so its us who need to do our research.
