Can you list or append someone else list of expectations of a traditional husband (one who has a traditional housewife)?

The traditional husband ended along with the traditional family prior to the 19th century. The Industrial Revolution killed the 'traditional family'.

The traditional family was defined as the husband, the wife, the children, the apprentice, and the servants.

The husband owned everything in his wife including his wife, children, servants, apprentice, land also at times included grandparents and brothers or sisters of the husband or wife. He was responsible for everyone's well-being under his house. The wife would attend to the domesticity of the house while the husband was responsible for providing the food, money for the family.

Like I said, the tradional family fragmented after the Industrial Revolution as a result of not only the apprentices believing they could work on their own but machines put the 'master craftspeople' out of business so to speak. Servants left to seek their fortune in factories and mills where they could run machines.

So the expectations of the traditional husband was to provide for the family under his care through money and work.

Somewhere along the line we associate "traditional family" including 'traditional husband and wife" with the 1950's but this isn't the case. Instead this was rather the age of the "nuclear" family but we were told that this was a "traditional family"

The husband went to work, did all the manual work such as automotive repairs or looked after the maintenance of the car and the house. The father would spend time with his son and show him the ropes of 'tinkering' while spending little time with the daughter.

Men then were not expected to cry. They were expected to be tough. The expectation of the traditional husband in this context was expected to beat the **** out of his wife or child if he felt they got out of hand/control to keep them in line.

The husband had total authority over the wife and the children according to the laws of the land. Wife and child were chattel (property) to him.

His expectation was that he would come home to a clean house and have a warm supper waiting for him when he came through the doors. His expectation was that his problems were worse than his wife's because she did nothing all day in his mind. Cleaning the house, cooking, feeding the children, dressing them, running errands et al are not considered work in the husband's mind.

I hope this helps.

He is only going to be supporting and understanding for a short time. Why in the heck did you marry this guy in the first place? you know how strict they are they are not 'traditional' but very demanding and you dear are stuck! Either ask for a divorce from him and get the heck out before you get any kids or you will be really stuck!! I know at least 3 women that married those type of guys and they regretted it for years until they got enough back bone to divorce and go back to their Western ways. You either have to accept or get out its easier when you are childless.

There should never be expectations in a marriage. What expectations are is "you owe me this". I married you and I expect these things from you. For example, you both use the trash can and it gets full. One waits for the other to take it out. Wrong, you should both take the initiative to take it out. Cutting grass, if you both like doing it, share in the chore. When one start to delegate chore for the next person, problems will most likely occur. Both people need to take the responsibility to get them done.
