I had the computer check the disc (sorry not good with computer and just do what is suggested by others, dont really know what it was computer was doing). anyway that didnt highlight any problems.

Any ideas ? I am worried as working on 4 essays and dissertation so cant have system crash. Please answer in basic language please!

You don't say which Windows you are using, so I'm going to assume XP.

1. Try Start,
Settings
Control Panel
Mouse
Carefully (underline carefully) check the options and preferences.

2. If this doesn't do it, try running your antivirus software in Safe Mode. Windows will not load and hopefully you will catch any self-executable files.
Restart your computer to get to Safe Mode:
>>>As soon as you see the system trying to load (it will probably be black and white)
>>>and before Windows tries to load,
>>>press and hold the F8 key.
>>>Continue holding it down until you see a black and white DOS menu. I think Safe Mode is F3.

Click Start, Run. Run your AV program.
(When it is finished, you will “EXIT” to Windows. Your desktop icons will probably be out of order – just drag them back.)
After you run your AV software, I would Restart, then run a full system scan to be safe.

Also, in Safe Mode, hopefully you can restore your system to a time when Windows worked.

Another thought. If you were writing in Word, there is a very easy way to repair Word. Open a document, click Help, click Detect and Repair. You may be asked for the Office disk. I have done this several times. It is a 1-2-3 operation.

First check and make sure you have no sticky keys or system keys stuck. Make sure you save all your work. I would put on floppy if it will fit, or cd burn. Have you recently installed any programs, or do you have a program or two, that is not working correctly, uninstall until pc is acting right. Assuming you are using XP, www.belarcadvisor.com, www.grc.com known as shields up. Checks computer security and ports to make sure your ports are closed or stealth. www.symantec.com click on home & off. , virus & alerts, threats and type in the search box free scan. One is sec. the other virus. You may have to disable your virus while running, but I don't. Run Adware and Spybot. These are free. If this don't clear up, email me bikinibeegee@yahoo.com

You may have a bad mouse driver or a bad touch pad. Most likely it is the touch pad. Have it diagnosed at Geek Squad in Best Buy. They will tell you for sure.
You can try burning all your work to a disc and then reinstalling the whole operating system to factory with the operating system disc that came with the computer.

It's amost certainly the mousepad. Plug in your external one, then go to control panel/system/hardware manager. Locate the mousepad and uninstall it. (right click). Do not let Windows reinstall it until you've finished your essays. And if it still bad after reinstall - you'll need to get the pad replaced.

Back up anything on your pc (put it on another pc or a usb flashdrive) if you can then reinstall the whowl pc and then get some good antivirus (reccomend avast, it is better than norton and it is free) and scan the full system. then look online if there is a virus to find away to get rid of it or try to find a a shop that can fix it!
