Hi Andrew,

For this question you first need to distribute the -2 and -3 over the respective factors on both sides of the equation to get:

5 - 2x - 6 = x - 3x - 3

Next, simplify both sides of the equation by combining "like" terms to get:

-1 - 2x = -2x - 3

Next, add 2x to both sides of the equation. Once you do this, you'll notice there's a surprise in store for the answer:

-1 = 0x - 3

However, at this point, you see that we have 0x and anything times 0 is just 0. Therefore, we get -1 = -3 which is obviously not true. This therefore, means that there's no solution!

FINAL ANSWER: NO SOLUTION

=)

I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Sincerely,

Andrew

5 - 2(x + 3) = x - 3(x + 1)
=> 5 - 2x -6 = x - 3x -3
=> - 2x -1 = - 2x - 3

There is realy something wrong with the question
i think it is 5- 2(x+3) = x^2 -3(3+1)

5-2(x+3)=x-3(x+1)

This is a lot like the previous one you posted.
1) distribute the number through the parentheses
2) combine like terms where possible
3) get all the x on one side and all the numbers on the other
4) get x by itself

5 - 2(x + 3)=x - 3(x + 1)
5 - 2x - 2(3) = x - 3x - 3(1)
5 - 2x - 6 = x - 3x - 3
-2x - 1 = -2x - 3
-2x - 1 + 1 = -2x - 3 + 1
-2x = -2x - 2
-2x + 2x = -2x - 2 + 2x
0 = -2

This means that equation has NO SOLUTION.

5-2(x+3)=x-3(x+1)
5-2x+6 = x - 3x+1
1-2x = 1-2x
there 2x - 2x = 0
there fore x = 0

i will solve it this way
5-2x-6=x-3x-3
-2x-1=-2x-3

since -2x will get canceld this equation has no roots

5-2x-6=x-3x-3
-2x-1=-2x-3
0=-2

5 -2x-6=x-3x-1
-1-2x=-2x-1
x=0
Let me know if I need to explain it

Multiply out the brackets, then make sure you put the variables on one side, then make sure x is on its own.

so could I !! Just multiply it out, get your variables on one side, and then isolate x.
