I've heard people use the saying "life is about the journey. Not the destination." I don't believe that. Why do you go on a journey? To reach a destination. That's the point. I think its exactly about the destination and where you end.
That's why we have journeys, to make it to a desination. Right?
What are your thoughts?

I NEVER SAID THAT THE JOURNEY WAS NOT IMPORTANT. OF COURSE IT IS. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A JOURNEY. ITS THAT THE DESTINATION SEEMS LIKE WHAT THE JOURNEY IS FOR.

You're right. There can't be any journey without a destination. There can't be a road to travel without the end of that road. Many or most people say otherwise because the meaning of life in the universe is difficult to fathom. In our own little ways, we drive to Aunt Mary's and that's it.
Philosophically and spiritually, I can only hazard a guess. Our journey started when time began. Only God or a Supreme Being knows. But definitely, and most assuredly, there must be a destination but we do not know where it is except Heaven in the Christian world.
Eastern religions seem to know where we are headed. Buddhist monks and Hindus, I hear, have been said to enter the realm of nirvana, sort of destination of perfection.
Just my thoughts and that's all. Cheers!

Good question!!
I think that while in other journeys, obviously the destination is the key factor, in the case of the journey of life, it is not so simple and straightforward..... because every destination in life is merely an intermediate one that leads to another more important one and this is a never ending process.... therefore, it is wise to savor the intermediate moments of achievement which is the same as giving importance to the journey keeping track of all the posts that are passed by..... if we choose any of those posts as the ultimate destination, then life would end on achieving that and we certainly do not want such a premature end to such a precious thing as life. Moreover, the general experience is that an obsession with a destination makes us lose out on the fruits of the intermediate achievements.... thus those who live for the day are the lucky ones making the most out of their lives savoring achievements every day..... not only that, every failure too is forgotten the next day when another achievement takes the center-stage.
Hope this makes sense.

It's about both...ultimately the destination is where we desire to be (or are going to be, depending on what you see as your destination) but since there must be a journey (if even a short one) then why not make it as enjoyable as possible?
There are many destinations, the last one being when we leave this earth. Getting a college degree is a destination. Getting married and/or raising a family is a destination. Going on vacation typically includes a destination (as does most travel). Buying a car or home is a destination. MANY things can be seen as destinations...not just death.
Why waste any of Life? Make every day or your journey and every moment of time at your destination as groovy as you want it to be. ☺

your life will end in death. that is the certainty. that is your destination.
You are on the way there regardless of what you do with your life. There may be intermediate destinations; education, jobs, marriage, children, buying a house you love, etc. but you are always on a path and there is always a future. you are never at a destination. there is always more to learn.
that is what they mean. if you think that when you get 'somewhere' in life you are 'there' you will learn more about that.
you are always in a continuing process, until you die.
well think about college. people tend to think you do it to get the degree - that is the goal. that is the point. but actually from my point of view, it's what you LEARN in college, how the process changes you and your perspective, that turns you into a college graduate. changes you into a different person. you may go to college to get a degree, that may be the point, but what you learn along the way will CHANGE YOUR LIFE and that's what they mean by the journey. You come out of college a different person. Because of the growth that you experience as a result of being forced to meet all those requirements. It takes some time and maturity to see all this.

i personally believe life is a journey, not a destination because one never knows what will happen next. you might have some goals set ahead, but things always have a way of not turning out the way you want it all the time. so a healthier attitude will adapt the change, make the most of it, and move on.
life is never constant. but what you had become as a person thru your experiences will help in your decisions and in conclusion, brings you to better journeys ahead.
God Bless!

the journey is a stage of preparation for the destination.
k-8 prepares us for the destination of high school.high school prepares us for college, so on and so forth.if we concentrate only on the destination and dont pay attention to the journey we may not be prepared for the destination.there are many destinations in life.
all of life prepares us for the final destination. death
In my belief (not preaching) death itself is a journey that leads to the destination of eternity.
It,s important to me that I learn all the lessons provided by lifes journey.so Im prepared when I get to my destination

But what is the destination? The destination is that which drives us forward in life..but always eludes us..
What we experience in the course of the journey is what shapes, changes our vision of what our destination would be... The meaning of our life is often not a given, fixed notion but is made in the process of leading our life..

In Amazing lyrics by Aerosmith..... Steven Tyler sings:
That one last shot's a permanent vacation
And how high can you fly with broken wings?
Life's a journey, not a destination
And I just can't tell just what tomorrow bring.......
I believe that in our life we have lots of journeys but in fact we have the same destination..... the Death!
