How can you get that musty smell out of your basement?

Depends on your basement. You'll have to clean thoroughly with something that kills mold and mildew (just browse the cleaning aisle in any store). Then you have to prevent it in the future: caulk any cracks in the walls or floor, seal the walls and floor, and install a dehumidifier.

Kill the source of the smell and the smell goes away. Don't just cover it up with fragrances.

Yeah, you have a damp basement. The easiest and cheapest solution is to keep a window open to circulate air and keep it from being too damp... You can also buy a product called damp rid it's in a bucket and you change the crystals every 30 days or when the container turns blue I think. The best solution is to run a dehumidifer/fan.. That will help take care of the moisture issues.. Although, I would also check the basement for mold which can be dangerous.. We have a partially finished basement and I mop with a mild bleach water solution about once a month or so and I run a dehumidifer every few days. It makes a big difference... good luck

oh i don't like that smell either, so here is what i do
i take a box of borax ( laundry aisle) and sprinkle it on the floor let it sit for a day or too and sweep or vacuum up and also buy about 6 or 7 boxes of baking soda ( i buy the cheap kind) open them up and put one in each corner and in other places they last about 20 days before you change them also if you can open a window, this helps the smell best of luck

Place charcoal briquettes in small piles (on an old pie tin works well) throughout the basement.

You can also try boxes of baking soda (you could even spread those out on a small paper plate, etc).

A dehumidifier might help, too.

hover up and place little bowls of lemon halves and salt, and then clean up completely
