Most of the times, i show you some stats to help you. This time , i thought that stats will mis-lead you.

However i would like to tell you some important things -

* Mark Taylor was once struggling with the bat & to keep his position in the team alive even though he was the captain.
Against a good bowling team (i think West Indies it was) & on a good, bouncy wicket for bowlers he won the toss & decided to bat first to make sure that his team bowls 4th in that test match.
Now, the thing to notice is that he himself was struggling to keep his place in the team as a batsman(& he had to face good fast bowlers on a bouncy wicket as an opener) but he made a decision that was in favour of his team & not selfish.
So, that's one very important thing about his captaincy.

* About Arjuna Ranatunga - It is known to all how he supported his bowler Murali on tough ocassions. He made the best use of his young side.

*About Steve Waugh, i don't have much to say. He was just the best

***Another important thing about Arjuna Ranatunga -
Australia decided not to go to Sri Lanka for a group stage match in the 1996 world cup. Australia was at that time the best team (of course) in the world based on form & record.

After the group stages when the teams advanced further, Arjuna was asked by a press person that which team would he & his team like to play in the final.
Arjuna said we want to play Australia in the final (who refused to play in Sri Lanka earlier bcz of security reasons)
& in the final they actually defeated Australia & won their first world cup under Arjuna's leadership.
- This story was told by Ian Chappell (an Aussie himself) & believes this was quite a statement from the Lankan captain

**** Again , no words for Steve Waugh. He is just the best, lol

I would like to know your thoughts on that.

Cheers!!!

Sure,Steve Waugh inherited a readymade package from Mark Taylor, who had shaped the team he had received from Allan Border.Steve Waugh’s greatest contribution as a captain is that he redefined the way Test cricket is played. He must be credited with innovative acts, including the basic approach and attitude to the sport itself.Something that none of his predecessors did.

As a captain, Steve Waugh instilled a rare sense of purpose and urgency in his players.

A captain is not necessarily to be judged only by his man-management skills, especially while fielding.Rather, his contribution with the bat is of as much significance. His double hundred against the West Indies, some six years ago, and the century in the 1999 World Cup semifinals against South Africa, were glorious scripts in courage and self-belief that rubbed off on his players.

Yes, I do. Ponting has faced many challenges that never confronted Waugh. Waugh inherited a champion team and handed on a team of ageing champions. Ponting has had to remould a team all over again, a far harder task. I've agreed with Chappelli, excuse me while I go and vomit.

Namaste: Monti.

Good info about my Champion Captain Ranatunga. However, out of your selected captains you've asked, you forgot Mohamed Azaruddin by the way.

First is first - I say Captain Ranatunga is the best out of all other captains you referred to. Arjuna Ranatunga lead his top 11 Lakan lions to Lahore VS Australia & won the Wills World Cup 1996.

Captain Ranatunga is the coolest captain among all of them & was a better batsman & showed outstanding character in his prime. His a true legend & the best captain. Sometimes other folks who don't follow cricket or is not from S.L. can just say stpd comments about Captain Ranatunga.
For example: jhny & others say his underrated & rely on one bowler........what a joke from h*ll.

Captain Ranatunga had more than just one bowler from S.L. The only difference between some of above & me, I'm a real cricketer & have passion for all my Lakan legends & keep up with cricket as possible.

Captain Ranatunga bowlers : Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Chandana, Aravinda De Silva, Kumar Dharmasena, P.Wickremansinghe. & any others I left out.

I wonder with some of top info bowlers, how can some morons claim: only one bowler.

I salute you Captain Arjuna "Cool" Ranatunga for being top class & a dangerous batsman VS all other cricket nations until 1999. Captain Ranatunga will always be my favorite captain & I don't give a rat kandy johnny azz what others say about Captain Ranatunga bc, his the best of the best & lead S.L with an undefeated record to Lahore & retained a championship trophy from Benazir Bhutto in front of millions of spectators.

Steve Waugh was the best and most successful captain among the three.

Indubitably Steve Waugh was the best.
Australia's victories under his captaincy more than establish his numero uno position.Arjun
Ranatunga, although a great captain in his own rights, would rank only after Steve.Mark Taylor,
while no doubt had the interest of the team at heart always even above his personal interest
stands a poor third compared to the other two
because he didn't make much of a mark nor was he spectacular as a skipper.

Ranatunga stuck up for his team
Taylor was a great tactician
but Waugh was the best. He led from the front and made test cricket more entertaining in terms of scoring rates and almost always got a result.
Australian under his leadership hardly ever (by test standards) played in a drawn game.

It's difficult to say who is the best among these 3, cus they have contributed the best to their team as much as possible & have brought up their teams today to a good level,
THEY ARE THE PILLARS OF THEIR TEAMS TODAY.
so i think it's difficult to say who was the best captain among them.
Hats of to all these 3 gentlements, they had the real sportsmanship spirit.

Aussies will say M.Taylor or either S.Waugh is the best & Lankan's will say that A.Ranatungs is only the best. Nobody is gonna speak the truth here. lol

But if you state the truth without any hatred attitude against anyone then the answer for this question will be my answer "above".

Cheers!!!

Ranatunga was very underrated as a captain, he had one bowler and his victory over England at the Oval was a masterpiece of captaincy.

The others had much better teams. Captains get praised when they have good sides. How hard can it be to throw the ball to Warne or McGrath?

For a captain who did well with an average side you have to look at Stephen Fleming or Mike Brearley.

these three are the best because they have potential to win a game.....(when they was playing as captain) but Arjuna was best because he always played with patio us and strategy....mark Waugh is talented also and as well as for mark Taylor everyone is the best.....buy my vote goes to Steve Waugh.
