What does it mean on the regular search engine when many results come up with all squares instead of words?

they seem to be comeing up like that because the language is wrong,proabely the language is China and not English

It's a communications error, the squares you see are characters that cannot be displayed.

it means you dont have the font installed. its most likely Japanese or Chinese, so you will have to install it to be able to read it. look in the regional and language options if you want to install them.
