It is OK to simply say yes or no to questions. And no I do not find that to be rude. It is often better than long winded answers that can be answered in one simple word. A little like this answer. :)

If all the asker asks is a simple question that only requires a yes or no answer...
I always want details and links if I can't find the information myself.

yes because if it just a simple question like do you like the color orange, what are you really going to say yes it's the most amazing most brightest color ever, thats just added detail with your opinion so i think it's okay to answer with just a simple yes and i dont find that rude.

It's perfectly fine to answer yes or no, but it's most likely not going to win you the 10 points. You need creativity for that.

Ideally, that's what the Guidelines seems to want in a "poll" but it's a cheap way to get 2 little pts when we're only making widgets here. So it's okay with Yahoo but not with me.

is it ok to be boring in life? no it's not, . a yes or a no shows that there is a lack of will to share more than the minimum required, and that is not an opinion in my book. it is invalid.

ofcourse you can .. and no , i dont think its rude if the question is answerable in 'yes' or 'no' but if its a answer that requires little detail then it is rude
