As everyone in Britain should agree, the Panto is the best form of theatre at Christmas time... at any time.

Adult theatre is too boring for kids. Kids theatre is too lame for adults. Pantos are all round good fun.

Do they have them in America... If not, why not? Start a campain!

We don't have a tradition of panto over here (which is a pity!), but it's not completely unheard of. I have a British friend who directs a panto every year for one of our local community theatre groups, and every so often a larger theatre will put one on. I think they might be becoming more popular, at least in some of the metropolitan areas with active theatrical communities. I keep hoping.

(Of course, they always have to go out of their way to try and *explain* what panto is, which sort of takes the fun out of it.)

Although Dave's answer is the most accurate, I don't recall ever having seen or heard of a pantomime around here (New England) except as described in books referencing English culture.
How exactly does one do a pantomime?

Yes. Congressional Committees. We can all take a joke, but do we have to have the whole pantomime?

( shout out now, LOOK BEHIND YOU!)

You are right though, if they don't have them they should,
(all together now,"OH NO THEY SHOULDN'T." )
