i think people do that so they get noticed so people know that they are there too.
some people have that feeling of insecurity in them and don't know on how to express themselves much and try to get it my attention by asking questions of that so.
When i ask questions it is not very regularly but it has a feeling of what i am feeling that day or why i feel that this thing is important to this world
and i do the same thing in answering
i answer question that i believe in and i think are important to our lives like yours

Ithink that some people refrain from asking questions because they wish to increase their number of points. They have a competitive urge.I believe other people ask questions because they think the questions are humorous.Others ask because they genuinely want to know the answer to something rather it be social, political, philosophical, psychological, religious, or whatever, etc...So I suppose I am saying that very often people are not concerned about achieving points but "getting recognition".Personally I like your questions because they are both interesting and challenging.I like questions from Acai because she asks challening questions about social and parental issues and the list goes on and on...I try to avoid questions when people ask them merely to challenge your knowledge of trivia. That's why your questions are so good, they are open enough so as to be thought over and there may or may not be a best answer.Asking questions is really a methodology.Plato would ask questions at his gymnasium. However they would be discussed but never resolved. This is called the Didactic Method in Philosophy.I suppose there is a myriad of reasons people ask questions but in the end some futherance of knowledge is inevitable, even concerning the most innate questions. In terms of communication, asking the questions is more important than the reason for asking them.

I ask questions for a number of reasons. Sometimes I just want some confirmation and inputs but most of the time I truly want insights. I realized Y!A has drawn together quite a number of very interesting people and the insights are simply amazing.

hi gEnTLe m@n....
Even when knowing that a questioner lose 5 points, he still ask a question because he feels that way.
Its really not like that they are not happy in real life or have no communicaion.
The questioner just wants to know people's views and opinions. He wants to know people's ideas on different topics and the way people can deal with problems.
Communication is no harm and is worth losing 5 points :)....tc...sweet dreamz...bye....

because the 5 points are not Rs.5 or $5..........if that was the case then NONE would ask a question that is worthless. I believe this. Nice 'q'......a star!
Make them happy by telling a joke or by a cute one liner or simply give a compliment............'coz not many people know that, "Beware the flatterer, he feeds you with an empty spoon."

Because no-one round here talks to me.
Seriously, do most people care about losing 5 points? You can regain 5 points by answering a few questions.
I am baffled by people who re-post the same question time and again.

Boredom,
I could ask this same question of you since you asked 10 questions in the last 24 hours.
Some people who hang out on this board are looking for real answers to real questions, others are lazy and want someone to do their homework for them, others are lonely, some want to send out spam, or amuse themselves with lying answers and answers that promote hate, others are bored and there is the group that honestly wants to try and help. I like to think I am in the last category. This may be why you became one of my fans.
First a question only costs 2 points if you select a best answer before the time period expires. A lot of people don't know that and so spend the entire five points. I think that a lot of people post a question and when they don't get a reply in the next 10 minutes they give up or post the same question again--I have seen it done.
I believe the stupid question is the one that is never asked so I try to be honest and not insulting in my answers. I know of one person who posted a question just to gather insults and report them so he could get them fined 10 points. Probably because he kept posting objectionable and illegal questions and was tired of being reported for it.
I have also seen people out her pleading for someone to talk to.
I have seen some pretty dumb questions, some that are written in text message speak and are indecipherable, some that are so poorly written you can't figure out what the question is, some that are simple statements like "Goodnight" and others that cover crazy concepts like "How do you have sex?" This questioner claimed to be 22 years old and was honestly asking the question because her grandmother told her she wanted great grand children before she died.
I approach each question in an attempt to get picked as the best answer, and I try to be through, which explains why my answers are so long. I try to honestly and correctly answer the question and if facts are involved I always try to cite a source so the questioner can be sure of the facts, especially when they get widely varied answers. I also make it a point to thank people when they select my answer as the best answer and try to drop in a little extra information as a reward.
I have been complemented on my answers, I have saved a marriage and I have forged a relationship that could lead to marriage. I have rescued some people who really needed the help and I have pleased some people with my answers. I am also sure I have made some people angry, bored disgusted, jealous and thinking that I write way too much.
I do what I can to help and I try to do a good job. I tackle a wide range of topics from relationship advice to quantum theory, from medical information to opinions on topics like abortion and execution.
Normally, I try to avoid the useless questions the stupid polls and those that are looking to enrage people. I would like to call this question a useless one, but it gives me a forum to tell you what I think and what I think the purpose of this board is.
Face it Yahoo is a profit making corporation and the original intent of Yahoo Answers was to increase email traffic and traffic at their sites as well as traffic in their search engine. Most people here have a Yahoo account and get notifications about questions from their fans, best answer notices, you have received an answer to your question notice, and so on. With these inflated statistics Yahoo is trying to compete with Google. Last year I researched Yahoo’s revenue vs. Google’s and found that Yahoo was making only 10% of what Google was making, so they have to really work hard to compete. This is good I don’t want Google to become a monopoly like Microsoft.
However, this board has done more than just made a profit for Yahoo, it has become a source of random public opinion, facts and a few profound ideas. I have even seen a Yahoo Answer come up in a Google search.
Ultimately you get out of this board what you put into it. Those that are asking a lot of questions either need the attention or need the help, or just want someone to talk with. Take you pick and look at yourself to see which category you fall into. I admit that I like the feedback I get and I really feel good when I ace an answer with a lot of facts and actually teach somebody something new. My policy is to try and reduce the general misery in the world and I do a little of that here.

well they find it funny and dont care about points. we can make them happy by answering not all but atleast some of their question in a positive. is there something like sake of asking???? there should be a choice for everything. they might find it more fun to ask those question and get answers as funny or not soo sensless as the questions. its all their likes and dislikes. they might think the same thing like why do they answer such brsiny questions and that Y/A answers is for fun. thats their point of view but we see it as asking for the sake of asking as our view is different to theirs. ours is where we think Y/A is a place to share and gain knowledge, so we ask these questions.
them- this is the place for fun not serious brainy questions.
us- this is a place to share and gain knowledge. extra genera knoewledge which is not in the books in school or in school syllabus- General knowledge!!!
we just need to accept the difference between them and us, their points of view and our points of view. thats all. if we look at it their way, we will understand what they are seeing Y/A to be-a recreational place for fun. we feel this way because of the different ideologies of different people but i do answer all kinds of questions that i know answers to.
all we have to realise are the difference between their views and our views and we wont feel like "why they as for the sake of aasking?" hope this was a good answer. dont want to make you bored but just..... i felt that you didnt realise or maybe forgot about the difference.
keep smiling Gentleman!!!! :~))))
