Will they play better for their fans? Or will they be too upset?

Don't think it will make a bit of difference on gameday, save those few players who may have lost a home. NFL teams travel weekly, and NFL players are mercenaries. Most don't bleed for their home city like fans do.

If the tragedy were greater, like Katrina, you would see some galvanization like in New Orleans. New Orleans has a special relationship with the Saints, but they are an exception to the rule, like Pittsburgh or Dallas. There is so much to do in San Diego, the city's identity isn't defined by the Chargers. Never has been.

While not trying to minimize what is happening in San Dieo right now, the city will recover quickly, and the impact probably isn't great enough to drastically alter the way a football team is motivated or distracted.

On a scale of 1-10, If the Katrina impact was a 10 for the Saints, the fire will be a 2 or 3 for San Diego

This isnt the first time the Chargers have been displaced because of something like this. If I am not mistaken it happened a few years ago. I think they will be fine.
