He would move to the opposing team's city and get free dinners for life. I think it may be worth it in the long run.

February 15, 2000, Martin Brodeur was credited his second career goal, as Brodeur was the last Devils player on the ice to touch the puck before Simon Gagne of the Philadelphia Flyers accidentally put the puck into his own empty net during a delayed penalty call against the Devils. Brodeur had previously tapped the puck behind his net, stopping an attempted wrap-around.

I remember in the World Cup (soccer) about 10 years ago or so, a goalie (Italy, I think it was) was clearing the ball, put some kind of bizarre spin on it and it went into his own net. Game over. I believe I heard he committed suicide shortly afterward.

He would be shot be security. Depending on who they were cheering on it would be non-lethal shot to bring him down and get him to a mental ward. I'm sure you can guess the other choice. Also I think everyone watching would have a heart attack or go into shock. We'd be glad there are so few of us hockey fans, because the Hospitals should be able to handle the amount of fans, although may end up a little ways from home.

i doubt any team would ever employ him again...
Ha, that was great when McCabe shot the puck into his own net in overtime against Buffalo last week. Thanks for the win! I did notice him shoot the pick against his own end boards or across his own goalies' crease a lot during that game, what's wrong with him? Seems pretty dumb if you ask me..

Although hockey fans are passionate, I doubt they would go to the extremes Colombian soccer fans went to after one of their players scored an own-goal that eliminated them from the world cup. He was shot and killed days after arriving home.
Really Bill, did this question keep you up last night?

remember goalies don't get to leave the ice so easily they would have to make it through the entire team.
oh and season ticket holders would sue citing season ticket holder of NY jets vs new England.
in all seriousness though think hockey would have its Shoeless Joe, white sox incident. besides beat down he would most likely get he would never play professional sports again and possible be investigated criminally

Wow Steve Smith........well being a fan of Calgary I love Steve but it was an accident and I kind of felt bad for him. He looked pretty sick about it.
As for a goalie it would have been that the pressure got to him and he snapped.
Wouldn't happen

Can't see it ever happen. He would never play again!
But if we are looking at a Steve Smith type of moment.. well ask any Calgary fan how much they loved to cheer him after!

An investigation would open up exposing a gambling ring. You'd have to ask Coyote fans if you wanted any more details than that.
