is it just me or do the yanks f**k up a film when they remake a jap horror film? take the ring and the grudge far better in japanese than the yank version, and the condemned is a total rip off of battle royale but no where near as good

I have to say Japs are more creative. I'm sure George Lucas would not mind that statement since he got the inspiration for Star Wars from a Jap film by Akira Furokawa ... The Seven Samurai. Come to think of it, hollywood ripped it off as the "Magnificent Seven" geez.

Not only Japanese films... French too!

Nikita remade as The Assassin with Bridget Fonda... Nowhere near as good or well made as the original.

Taxi remade as Taxi but with Queen Sh*tifa playing a male role and doing the worst acting job i've ever seen, it's nowhere near as good or gripping & the chase scenes are crap and unimaginative compared to the original... Taxi 2 & 3 (French) are sequels that rival if not surpass the original... All 3 are superb, they use the same formula for the films and don't ruin it by changing loads of things in the sequels except for the scenario's... I can't wait til Taxi 4 is released!

Back to your question... I have nothing against America or Americans but they do ruin the majority of remakes, which is a shame... Why fix it if it aint broken...

Ive been collecting Asian horror flicks since i watched The Ring on Film4 Extreme all those years ago,and they still throw up suprises now, can't say that for American flicks, you always know what's gonna happen next.
Asian films seem to work more on atmosphere and originality which American movies seem to lack.
