He's been honest and hard-working and has served his country in peace and war.
As far as I know he's the only politician whose served in the frontlines of a warzone, has children active in the military, and still stands by his belief that we should stay in Iraq.
He's a great candidate, why can't he get any support?

His leniency towards illegal immigration and amnesty.

He can't get support because he is a hawk.

Even if it makes sense, it's not fashionable.

It is a glimpse into our future.

There is not one single politician on the Horizon who will have the gumption to deploy US troops.
They just will not run the risk of going through what Bush has.
They will run the country by consensus and gather others to share the accountability or do nothing.
One possible exception. If Hillary gets the nod, she will replicate her husband and drop bombs where the US has no interest like Bosnia or Somalia and not call it war but, "A Humanitarian Effort" and the UN will sign off on it.

John McCain is an American hero, I have great respect for him. He will do what he thinks is the right thing to do.

That being said, he will never garner great support for his presidential bid because of his stance on the war and the many times he has stood by Prestident Bush.

The money is behind Rudy and Mitt who are being advised by neoconservatives and who fully intend to widen the war in the middle east. McCain just wants to pacify Iraq and then move on to solving our domestic problems.

Because the Republicans(despite all of their posturing) NEVER support a veteren for President. They ignored Dole in '96(despite their so-called hatred of Clinton), failed to re-elect Bush 1 in '92....they talk a good game, but they really don't trust Vets in office.

I agree with Stev. McCain sold us out with the amnesty bill. He also screwed us with McCain-Feingold. He is an American hero but he's not a conservative Republician. He also seems a bit too explosive at times.

For me its his insistance the US is a Christian nation and his pandering to right wing fundamentalist " Christians" .
He may actually be worse than Bush when it comes to church state separation. I like the guy, I just don't trust his judgement when it comes to supporting Bush's war and aligning himself with the Evangelical Right Wing Fundamentalists. Too bad about that.

It seems like I heard that John McCain has no chance of being elected because he doesn't come from money or the free masons or something. Could that be true?

Gosh I suck.

You make an excellent few points here! I also like the fact that he wouldn't take any "nonsense" from anyone...we need someone diverse and strong like this man!

He is not a great candidate. I don't support him. Most of his political ideas are not mainstream conservative. Further, he is responsible for passing some bad legislation. I won't vote for him.
