I've been searching for a new comforter set and I can't determine if the comforter is of good quailty online. Does the price of it determine it or is there someway to know if it is a good one to where it will last a long time? I don't want to wash it once and all the seems start coming out. Any advice please...

check out where it is made, the type of material used and also check the seams, are there lots of threads or double sewing, or inconsistencies.
The item should probably be a cotton blend, if you want something washable with part being synthetic about 70%cotton/30% synthetic.
the batting inside the quilt should not be clumpy, it should be smooth and probably there will be sections sewed by machine.
loook for soemthing mid range, certainly not the cheapest or the most expensive brand name..
a good comforter should be fluffy and soft, but not flimsy....

Price can definitely be a determinant. It usually signifies high or higher quality fabrics and detailing. Luxury linens are available everywhere but if you want to bring it down a bit you might try Croscill, Waverly, A.J. Moss or Tommy Bahama. Croscill and Waverly are available in limited sets at Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens n Things where you can use a 20% off coupon to get a better price. Expect to pay a minimum of $300 for a queen comforter. Other pieces are sold separately. At these places, you can actually feel the sample fabrics and there is a difference between those and the inexpensive linens.

I used to buy the big heavy frilly comforter sets and they were very nice, but, they are a pain in the butt to launder, if you can even put them in the washer. Some of the nicer ones are dry clean only and you will pay dearly for that. If you have a dog or car you will want to launder more often.

I finally went to Target and bought a thinner but very chic "bedspread" with matching shams. It looks nice and I can pop the whole shee-bang into the washer at the same time and it doesn't take all day to dry either. I have a small dog so I just feel my room is cleaner if I keep my bedclothes washed at least once every one to two weeks. It helps with my allergies too.

Also if you get one that is too sturdy, you will probably have it longer than you want to. Styles change and moods change.

Look for the number of tread count, the higher the number the quality is much higher
