I like the Gardenia. It grows well and it can be big or small depending on how you want it. But my favorite part is that it adds fragrance to the landscape. I love to go outside and catch a whiff of it. I like a plant that multitasks or does some kind of a job. I don't want any slackers in my yard. They either have to repel bugs or be easily maintained, have stunning beauty or something.

Depends on the size. For something in the mid-to-large size, I love the Deodar Cedar. The sweeping blue branches are soft to look at, and look great in snow. In the mid-to-small, I do have to vote for Foster's Holly. They don't require two shrubs to produce berries. The require very little pruning and maintain a naturally conical shape. They don't get too wide either.

Well, my favorite commercial evergreen that is commonly used around building is the Nandina with it's lovely green foliage in the spring and summer months and it's bright red in fall and winter. As for my own personal domestic favorite that would be the Helleborus with it's large waxy green leaves and beautiful flowers in the winter.
