no - we aren't particularly lucky. Two massive famines. A Republican war that lasted 30 years. Quangos governing the northern state until recently. etc etc

Reading the other answers to your question I think I have to point something out. Though the Irish have had many hard times they always manage to survive. Famins, illness, gov, through it all they manage to keep going. I don't know if that added up to being luck(though I am Irish and I know many others I would call lucky) I think I would have to say that we are blessed even if it doesn't seem like it at first. Or maybe as I just told the person behind me.....The Irish have had a long hard road. Maybe the god's make them lucky to even things out.

Not so very long ago thousands of them died in the potato blight era which is why there are so many descendants of the Irish in New York because they had to leave or starve. That is lucky then is it?

I'm not sure if they are lucky; if you look at their history they have had the potato blight and many emigrated over to America due to the country being so poor.
