The word 'typical' is used to describe something that shows the most usual characteristics of a particular type of thing. Here you are describing her style of writing and want to show that it had all characteristics of the writing style in vogue in that period. Here the use of the word 'typical' is very appropriate. No other word like 'indicative' or ' similar to' will carry the message correctly. So stick to the word ';typical'.
