No Way,, Far too many kids today rule the roost at home ,they act like parents are there to serve them .. ,provide them with what ever the Almighty T-V tells them they cant live with out and to drive them around until we buy them a "cool" car. 20 yrs ago kids had to use there imaginations and think there way through real life problems. This prepared them for the real world where they would have to think on there feet to survive. Seems today kids have every thing done for them and parents don't realize that they are not doing them any favors. Kids learn by doing, they learn to responsibility by having to be on a structured schedual for completing tasks. This should start from day one, if you wait and introduce these tactics too late they will be viewed as a punishment as apposed to every day life, If they never no any different they will have nothing to question ,Much like religion.

I don't think the ability of the child has changed. What has changed, is the level of education of the parents within the last 50 years. The Media, Technology, and Education are part of the reason for this evolvement. But I will tell you something that has changed and is not only causing a mental but physical change in children today. The nourishments we give our children today are full of vitamins, (growth hormones, thru meats and plant foods) Children today are developing by age 9 and 10. Girls wearing bra's by the time they are 9 and getting their periods by age 10. If this is happening to their bodies, what is going on with the brain????
Yes, children are more intelligent, but it has to do with a whole lot more than meets the eye!!!

My boys are definitely more book smart than we were. They're much better students and also more aware of the world. BUT, i don't think kids- as a whole- are as capable of life's basic responsibilities. They've had neither the freedoms nor the level of responsibility of earlier generations.
Does this play into intelligence? Probably not. I think kids today direct their intelligence to a different purpose than kids did even 20 yrs ago.

Basically the same. Though all humans pretty much stay the same as their culture. However, due to MTV more exposure to other cultures and their dress, which impacted our styles.Gloria Vanderbilt and Izod clothing were all the rage. But extreme dressing became acceptable, punk rock etc. Of course, witnessed the tearing down of the Berlin wall. So glad to have an end to the cold war. We also became more health conscious. Actually, too much. I watched as "social norms" were more accepting of perceived variations to this. Life was good, and if you worked hard you could achieve anything you wanted. Well, that has not lasted. lol. The technology age was beginning to take off. How excited we were to take a test on apple pc in the library. How great microwave ovens were! Parents were home more, and we did have dinner at the table.Unfortunately, experimental drugs were beginning to consume so many. I would associate the 80's to the free loving of life of the 20's. But towards end, reality set in. We were not infallible. I graduated high school 1982 and paid my own way through college with grants, and work. We of course still had ending of disco. Had disco dances, and roller skating! Then moved on to music and movies with more meaning. My children laugh at me, say I am still stuck in the 80's. They were my glory days...I miss them.

No, they know different things, because things weren't available 20 years ago, technology. However, the world in general is in the worst shape it's ever been in, younger and younger criminals, decline of respect, no I do not see a more intelligent generation. Also it's not the child's fault!

They know different things, but their basic intelligence level is the same.

There is no change in the intelligence level. They are just more adept at technology because they grow up with it.
