Presuming you mean buy a house then my experience: we put the offer in beginning of November and got the keys end of march. However that was because the people who lived in the house we bought were buying a new house and had to wait for them to finish the house which took longer than expected so we expected it to take a while. We started looking in the august and put offers in on 3 other houses before we got the one we wanted.
A friend put an offer in September and moved in by December. Another put an offer in late august and expects to move in this month or early next.
Guess it depends on how quickly you find a house you like and their circumstances. They may be in a big chain or it could be just you. You can always negotiate with them that you want it to go through quickly. Supposedly if everything is in place you can do it in 6 weeks but that requires your solicitors and theirs to be on the ball so keep bugging them. Would recommend having the mortgage agreement in place (ie the mortgage company will give you a piece of paper saying we will give you this much money) as soon as you are ready to look then you can move quickly. Choose a solicitor too before you start so as soon as you have an offer accepted you can get them in on it.
Hope things get better with the mother in law.

We started looking with a realtor and became very excited about the second house we looked at, made a bid, bid was accepted, filled out all paperwork etc. From looking at houses to getting keys, it was about a month and then some. However, I would strongly caution you not to dop what we did. Relax, enjoy the process of finding your home and do not rush into the first house you like. I wish we waited, but now we're stuck with a house that probably isn't worth what we paid for it.

That mostly depends on how quickly you find a house you like, get an accepted offer, and your ability to find financing.
If you haven't already, talk to some loan officers to make sure your credit is up to par. If you have credit issues, your whole process can be slowed while you try to find a program to assist.
I was looking as long as a year ago, but got serious around July/August and am closing in November.

When I'm showing people houses, I usually tell them to plan on up to a month to find a house then anywhere from 30 - 60 days from the offer date til you get the keys.

First time l bought l was looking for over a year, second time less than 3 months.
I would start booking viewings now in your spare time so you can gauge what property's you like and what you can get for your money. No harm in testing the water.
Good luck.

depends on how fast your bank can close and how fast the people can move.
i sold and moved , closed all within sixty days.
why not just move out / not deal with living with the witch mother in law ? get a short term or month to month rental ? Better for you , hubyy and her. it's stressful living with extra family. i would move out / why ruin a relationship. you can negotiate a lease for sixth months or get one month to month. you give 30 days notice. there are many options available. good luck to you

Started looking in early March. Put offer in in mid-April. Closed in mid-May. Spent last week of May making repairs and moved in in early June.
