Why Do We Cry?
Thursday October 19, 2006
Any parent cradling an inconsolable infant at 3 a.m. will tell you that tears are not always the clearest mode of communication. Indeed, expressing distress is but one part of the sob story.
* Basal tears (which flow continuously from the lacrimal glands) clean and lubricate the eye, making vision possible.
* Reflex tears clear the eye of irritants produced by, say, onion-slicing.
* Psychic or emotional tears are the complicated ones produced by babies and adults alike.
Believed unique to humans, emotional tears carry certain hormones and other proteins—produced during periods of stress— out of the body, which may explain the cathartic effect of "a good cry." But if the body is attempting to weep its waste away, tears are woefully ineffective; most get reabsorbed by the body. And none of this helps determine whether baby just needs to burp.

I believe that we cry because we in some way can relate to there mood and can relate to what their emotions are.
For example I haven't cried for sadness in a while, but I do cry when I watch game shows and the people on the show make a gamble on what the answer is and is right. Or make a great improvement and win a big prize on tv.
I guess I get so happy for them I will cry. Maybe because excitement makes people like me be able to relate to other things in life I have came close to or have achieved in life.
Other than that I think everyone has their own reason for crying. Hope that helps!

Dear Sister, crying is an outlet to our emotions. People who are expressive by nature cry more than those otherwise. This is the reason why in FILMS and THEATRE PLAYS crying is dramatised to the extent that each and every person present in the audience are able to sense that the person on the screen or in the play has cried. Many negative emotions are released during crying and that is why a person feels relaxed after shedding tears.

Crying is a means by which we can directly or indirectly release some of the pain we feel its a form of grieving . they say it is good for you. Its not a bad thing if it only happens in moderation...but there are certain times in our lives when we all become highly emotional....personally, was raised by parents basically told me that life, get over it, wake up to yourself and get on with it. ie it was weak to cry...I now know it is not a weakness.to some respects I admire people who are able to release their emotions freely, I still can not and some people veiw that as being cold...though I am not - on the inside there are times I am a blithering mess.

Tears are a liquid produced by the body's process of lacrimation to clean and lubricate the eyes. The word lacrimation may also be used in a medical or literary sense to refer to crying. Strong emotions, such as sorrow or elation, may lead to crying. Although most land mammals have a lacrimation system to keep their eyes wet, Humans are the only animal generally accepted to cry emotional tears

We express our emotions through crying. if we didn't cry we would be sitting there with a big grin on our faces while we were really sad or depressed.

We cry when tears help relieve the strong emotion pressuring our eyes.
Sadness, Happiness, Pain, Loneliness, Depression, Sympathy all can be strong emotions capable of pressuring our eyes to shed tears.

when we feel the pain, the joy; we cry. women cry more then men because they're more emotional and emotions play an important part in determining if we cry. without emotions, you don't feel. and when you don't feel, you don't sympathize and there isn't a need to cry.
at least that's what i think.
