Help in the arrest of a snatcher but do not shoot him with your gun because life is more precious than the item being taken.

Shoot him. Air guns hurt but they're not deadly.
... Not even sure it would stop him if he's on the run.
The only time our air gun has even drawn blood is when it was in close range... and boy did it hurt.

Well, that is in defense of a stranger which entails no criminal liablility on your part... and since air gun as you said is not deadly, shoot him as many as you can... gogogogo!
