Well if you are in the Australian Rowing Team and someone just lays down in the middle of the race... the rest of the team are really pissed off.. so you just got to keep rowing in those circumstances and draw on some hope from your mates.

I disagree. It's not loss of hope, it's loss of your sense of humanity that determines loss in conflict.

I will assert that once hope is lost, all is lost, but it doesn't mean that loss of combat cannot also determine loss in conflict.

In recent months I have seen Indian fans here castigating Gavaskar for being,to put it politely, an idiot who speaks without thinking. He has just confirmed it with his comment. What is it with an entire country who can't handle defeat or not being #1? Isn't it all about playing the game & not point scoring against the rest of the world? To think I thought the USA were the worst sports in the world.How crazy was I?

I agree. In an ancient greek myth about Pandora's box, all the evils of the world were released. The last thing to come out of the box was hope. Gee, we are damn smart people sometimes, aren't we though?
