I have an semi-open balcony. Can anyone suggest cheap alternatives to close it?

This is to prevent pigeons from entering the balcony. Couple of options that I have thought are grills (expensive), mesh (will it look good?)...

Without knowing at all, where you are; or access to any material; some form of screening certainly will be the most cost effective method.

The issue with look good is certainly a personal issue. It may also be goverened by whether or not you rent or own. The pigeons won't rate the aesthetics; and may yet find ways to lite; even with a minimum foothold, and leave a deposit; in effect offering their opinion.
