Lots of maudlin 2 am questions Jack. I'm seeing the dawns light on the leaves as I type, they are turning amber and rust - preparing to fall. The branches will be bare for months, but they will be graced with life again.

Mediocrity is merely a relative measure. What is it to be mediocre amongst your peers when all your peers are brilliant? Do you see yourself as the brilliant person that you are or as mediocre standing side by side with peers?
I think we are all born with limited capabilities in life, none of those "stations" are more worthy or less worthy to humanity.
I think acknowledging your shortcomings is a sign of maturity but doing nothing about them is a sign of resignation.

Its both. You have to accept it and learn to live with it, thats resignation. You are comfortable with your mediocrity, thats a sign of maturity.

Puppets that look like puppets are accepted by children but not adults.
Perhaps it's a sign, not of maturity, but of loss of imagination.

Depends on how you deal with this realization. However it must be noted that the realization of one's greatness is a sign of narcissism...really, you can't win.
