I've read some places that you shouldn't apologize to your ex. But here are my thoughts... if you offended someone shouldn't you apologize, especially if you are sincere? Why would it be any different than apologizing to anyone else? Isn't that just an escapism mentality for not taking responsibility for yourself and your actions if you don't apologize?

Who says? You should apologize to ANY ex....
In my little book i have here... page 3/rule 5 actually states... NEVER apologize or admit you are wrong to your current spouse. So the answer is yes, by all means apologize.

Apologizing To An Ex

I had an emotional affair when I was married before, I wanted a divorce, he didn't and I should've ended the one before I began another, we have two boys together, and I am remarried, but my current husband and I prior to our marriage went thru some crazy times that through our amicable relationship (my ex and I) he was able to pick up on my depression, he was there emotionally for me in ways that only a truly good heart could have been as I was the catalyst to our divorce, and I apologized profusely to him for what I did to our marriage and his feelings, if anything, it's made us better people and better parents to our children cause we've put our past behind us. So no, apologizing especially if it's sincerly for the benefit of the person you wronged is not a bad thing at least it wasn't in my case.

well, i honestly think u shud apologize if you
really think you're at fault. it gets this load
off your chest, and makes you feel better
about doing the right thing. i guess what uve
read is true in cases when ur ex is the one at
fault, but as u saym in this case, its not. saying
the simple word 'sorry' in a sincere way gets
all the guilt of what u think uve done away. u
never know, its worth a shot, better to have
done something than nothing at all.

I have never heard that you shouldn't apologize to an ex. Of course if you were wrong, you should apologize, no matter who it is. That would just be bad manners not to.

nothing is wrong with apology,,,specially if the offense left a great impact on the other person. it would also be great to unburden the load from both of you and will leave positive effect to the people around you. Afterall, we owe to act,and think in a humane manner.

Appologizing is a way to make yourself feel better inside. In life appologizing is not always enough. In relationships just saying your sorry doesn't make things better or go away. If are talking about your ex that you dated?
well... only you would know if appologizing would make that person feel better. If you are just doing it for yourself than I suggest that you just get over it! Let sleeping dogs lay.

There's nothing wrong with apologizing. It takes a lot to say "sorry" sometimes.
