There are lot of scopes for Travel in December.
Before that answer your self for these questions.
If you will go single then choose any Hill station in north India or sea beach in Goa. Avoid city life you will enjoy.
Are you going in a honey moon trip? Any Hillie station in North India or a pilgrim with sea beach PURI is the best.
Going with small children or elder ones? Never go to any Hillie Station in Dec. They may be sick. Here also Puri(Orissa) is the best.
Want to travel with school going children then, go for Historical places like Delhi, Hydrabad, Banglore / Mysore.
With lot of friends? There are many options. Beaches of Kerala.. Goa..for beer n cheer.
Winter sports at Kullu Manali. Para gliding at Oly(Himachal Pradesh).
Nepal for adventure. You don't need a Visa or Passport.
Many places at eastern India like Silong, Nagaland Mizoram Etc..
Actually it depends what is your Budget? How many days you can spare out of your city?
Wish you a happy journey.

This place will rock your vaccation and will give you an unforgetable experience. Go to Srinagar(Kashmir). Stay there in house boat in Dal Lake. Many places near Srinagar are fantastic. Gulmarg is the best place in India where you can do skiing.
Note: Try to reach there around the period of snowfall(It will give a boost).
It won't cost much.
Be careful while choosing house boat because only few gives you the real experience.
Last december i also went there and it was great.

I normally take a pilgrimage to Sabarimala during December. The month of december is very holy in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It is Swami Ayyappa Mandala Pooja and Makara Jyothi season. Also, it is Thiruppavai (Music Festival) season too.

If you like snowfall and winters then Northern India is the place to be....You can go to Kashmir, Simla, Dalhousie, Mussorie.....Then while returning back come via Amritsar (visit Golden Temple), then to Delhi. Near by Delhi is Agra, Jaipur and Chandigarh worth visiting places.
If you are interested in Temples, then you should go to Southern part of India.
For natural beauty go to eastern part or Kerala.
