I wonder what this could be a metaphor for?

Well, as a matter of fact I've never bitten a dog, nor a god ... to tell you the truth.
A metaphor for self-hurting maybe: dogs are usually symbols for self-control: guardians against dangers of every kind. If you bite your guardian-dog who on Earth could save you from the ruin?
Sorry I cannot think of anything else.

I never owned a dog that bit, so therefor had no reason to bite it and beside that is a cruel thing to do. Puppies that chew on ur arm or hand is imitating the way he played with his litter mates, he`s not biting u out of viciousness but being playful. I know it can hurt but there r other ways of stopping that habit beside biting the dog. What comes next, some M. Vick`s treatment.

Yes, I have and I don't mean a hotdog.
Many years ago I had a puppy that thought that my arms were chew toys. The only thing that stopped it was every time he would chew on me I would let out a loud yelp and bite him on his neck. Not hard, but hard enough that he felt it. It worked well and didn't take too long for him to understand not to do that.

If you've ever seen a mother dog make her puppies behave then you know to nip the pup on her/his ear! It works.
