I love the name, and prefer the Leila spelling, personally. Especially with the current trend to add random Ys to names (though I realize Layla is the original here), Leila just seems more visually appealing. ;)
Also, despite Layla SEEMING to better indicate the desired pronunciation, it is NOT "just said LAY-la" as someone pointed it. These are forms of the same name -- as is Laila, which I don't believe has been mentioned -- and can be said LAY-la, LIE-la or LEE-la (though the latter is more common with Leila, to be fair). Still, it's not going to be cut and dried no matter which you choose, so you might as well go with whichever you find more attractive. :)
Ps. I hadn't realized Layla was a showgirl or Leila from Star Wars. LOL Too funny! Just because they're similar to Lola and Leia doesn't make them the same exact name, folks. ;)

Hi,
If I had to chose I would pick Leila as think the spelling of it is much nicer than Layla.
You can actually pronounce Leila in THREE ways - LAY lah, LYE lah or LEE lah.
Leila has a Persian origin and means Dark haired beauty, night.
Leilah is another way of spelling Leila. The pronunciations are the same.
The name Layla has THREE origins - Arabic meaning Dark Beauty, African meaning Dark Beauty and Swahili meaning Born at Night.
Layla is just pronounced LAY lah.
I also like Leilani for a girl. It has a Hawaiian origin and means Heavenly Blossoms.
It is pronounced lay LAH nee.
Good luck!
Lx

I would choose Layla as Leila may get pronounced Leela as in Shiela and that will really start to irritate you. Personally Mimi I think you have the best name----just like my daughter. We like the name Ruby.

In AUS we pronounce Leila as 'Lee-lah' but I personally like either of them! Layla is quite cutesy though where as Leila is more appropriate for an adult in my opinion. I would stick with Leila, pronounced however you wish as the spelling is nicer.
best of luck and congrats!

I like Leila better. Or Lia/Leah. Layla just makes me think of the Eric Capton song.
