The original version is the best. 1943 performed by Bing Crosby. Written by Walter Kent (music) and Kim Gannon (lyrics).

Also perfomed by Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, and countless other musicians. Every Christmas a new version comes on the market.

There's more to your question than meets the eye...you're not looking for the singer per se, instead you're wanting to know who's gonna be singing happily this Christmas. And I sure wish I can exclaim "I am.....I am".

But the sad truth is I'm bracing myself for a merry-less Christmas. It's bad enough that my parents are in the Philippines (while I'm here in Houston)...but even my honeyboss wouldn't be a click away.

Hopefully this is serious ? 'cause here's your serious ans. However, I did learn something so thanks.

Kim Gannon & Walter Kent wrote the song; Bing Crosby recorded it Oct. 4, 1942, released it Dec. 1942. Obviously WW II era, when soldiers, families, friends were separated. They'd be home "if only in their dreams"

Song became very popular again at wars end when our troops did come home.

First off what is the context?

And secondly just to be safe (in case you heard some sinful cover version on accident and didn't know it) the only version you need was sung by Bing Crosby, period.

I'm thinking Bing Crosby was the best-known, but it's been sung by lots of people.
