Ask a friend or someone you know can help you. I love to skateboard but I don't do any of the tricks mainly because my cousins that would teach me how live too far away. Also, as you probally already know this, no pain no game.

How to improve your life by skateboarding (lots of the grey hairs will be going crazy with that idea).

There is a life lesson here. Skateboarding is no different from other things.

You can learn by having a go, trying things out and seeing how you go. This can often be the best way to learn as everyone is individual. However no matter how hard you try, you may not succeed.

You can also learn by finding out how to do it through instruction. Sometimes you have to learn some little trick or idea and you may never figure it out yourself. So get others to show you, or watch skating DVDs to learn.

Finally, you have to have the guts to do something. Often the first time you try something you want a safety net. For example, if you try to ollie 8 stairs you want the full package of saftey gear (to get over your fear).

Sometimes there is no point in trying to do something until you are ready. Some people have no fear and will try anything, and others are more cautious.

Don't think you have to aim only for the big air power moves. You can try to get more control over your board and be better at the smaller, less spectular tricks, and this will help you add polish when you go for the power moves.

I haven't been skating as long as you, but I'm the same way. Before I try something I always feel a little scared. The only way to improve is practice. Also just work your way up to things. Before trying the 8 go back and do the 5 a lot until you feel comfortable over stairs.

yes practice is key, and a lack of fear seems pretty important as well, but a shortcut may be to go ahead and do a head dive into the pavement thus knocking all the sense out of your brain as that is what is causing the fear :)

pup,

If you see someone do something you'd like to do, perhaps you should ask them how they learned. Most people that are good at things like to be helpful to those that want to learn.

ps keep some band-aids on hand

keep practicing your best trick. keep doing it going faster and faster. then when you get the hang of it, do it over low things like sticks or curbs, then over your friends' skateboards and 2-3 steps. keep going higher or faster.
