People call Alonso selfish, but forget he was the defending Champion.

Why do people think he came to McLaren? To sucumb to a #2 driver a help a rookie take his title???

I don't get it. Did people really expect Fernando to willingly take the #2 position in the team and let a rookie take over? it boggles my mind.

Yeah, Alonso arrived at McLaren hoping for the treatment of a two time world champion, but instead got upstaged by a rookie. Now if he had number one status and Lewis had helped him, he would have been champion by now. But it's Ron you know, equality, equality, equality until it makes his drivers sick. Senna was sick and wanted to leave, Mika gave up, Kimi was just flat out annoyed and Alonso might just do anything to return to Renault.

I don't think so. He obviously wants the rightful treatment as a two-time world champion and I can understand that. How would he feel, being pushed aside for a rookie? Some people expect Alonso to stop complaining and so do I, but I'm sure some of the things he said are facts and not merely complains to get attention.

Correct. Alonso fought back with all the "anti-alonso" conspiracies going on in McLaren. He has voiced out everything that has happened during the season. I can't believe this McLaren team who had been promoting "driver equality" would favor Lewis just because he is good. Lewis outpacing Alonso is believable, but if you consider Alonso being the 2 TIME champion, it would be weird. That is why Alonso knew his car was inferior to Lewis.

What is interesting is the fact that people think Hamilton is an extraordinary driver that fell from heaven!!!!

I shall predict that the next year, when McLaren makes one of those unreliable cars, because they cannot copy Ferrari to make a good car like this year's anymore, Hamilton will become part of the forgotten history as Rosberg did.

Alonso did not win the title because he was under the pressure of ignorance of Ron Dennis and his excessive loss of support.

People like Hamilton that do not have capacity of being overtaken by their teammates shall be removed from such a professioanally set up racing sport!

Well, I would have offered the exact same answer as Firefox.
People didn't expect Alonso to give his title away, and he certainly didn't expect to have Hamilton to make such a stirling job of taking it away.
While they both finished with 109 points by the seasons end it's clear that Hamilton, as the one with so little F1 experience, is the one who put in the best effort and will undoubtedly reap the rewards in the future.
What you also have to consider are the reasons people call Alonso selfish. It is not because he was defending his title, it was the means by which he did it........demanding preferential treatment, accusing the team of not backing him, knowingly testing Ferrari info etc.

Alonso was McLaren's #1 driver and should have been treated as such. McLaren made a big mistake by treating Alonso so poorly in favor of the Golden Boy.

With all due respect, Alonso had nothing to give away. Lewis had rightfully claimed that on track. Alonso was not forced to succumb, he was beaten to submission with pace and consistency from the young rookie.

What we didn't expect was the 2 time WDC demanding that Lewis STOPS winning. That boggled my mind, atleast. If someone called him selfish, then it has this justification.

Fernando was never forced to take any position in the team. Though I am not a McLaren fan, I believe he got equal treatment till the end. He was allowed to race his team mate, which he did rather ferociously.

I totally agree. He did what he had to do to try and stay on top. For his efforts, the media villified him and never gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Any other world champion, in the same position as his, who felt as if his own team favored the other guy, would have done everything in his power to get the odds back in his favor.

I don't think i've ever seen a world champion have to work as hard as alonso has to stay on top.

I agree, that it's for Hamilton to take it for himself, not for Alonso to give it to Lewis.

I think some people took their love for Lewis too far. ITV commentators too, when they suggested that Alonso should drop all the way down the order if only to give Lewis extra one place higher.

They forgot that Alonso was in contention for the championship too, if one of the Ferrari DNF and Alonso finish 2nd !!!!
