Alright heres the deal, weve all heard of DNA, thats the instruction manual to build an organism. It is composed of about 3 trillion bases (the words of a manual). When we sequenced the human genome, we were surprised to discover that the human genome is only about 22,000 genes, which is odd because it is genearlly decided that there are about 100,000 characteristics of humans. Turns out a single gene can do multiple things depending on location, ie. the gene for cell in a brain will make a different cell than the same gene in the heart. So heres the thing with us and apes, all life comes from an ancient ancestor, a single celled prokaryote, thats neither here nor there, whats important here is that yes we do share roughly 85% of the genome with chimps, but that is 85% of the coding genes, not the entire DNA, the majority of DNA is non-coding. Listen, because this is where it gets interesting, your DNA has the blueprints to give you "monkey"- like characteristics. For example, there is a family in Mexico that grows hair all over their face, like a werewolf. What happened to them is that their DNA for this feature has been "turned on" and has been coded and made. It is safe to say that you have instructions (DNA) to give you some very interesting characteristics, but if you had these you would be an outcast. But you were on the right track thinking about "dormant" characteristics but there is no single "monkey" gene. Have you ever heard of the Nature vs. Nurture dichotomy? Well it seems to me that your "nurture", your behavior, has worked with your "nature" your body, and you have tuned the amazing machine that is the human body. The human body has amazing capabilities and it is only limited by the imagination and dedication of the owner. Look at what Arnold Swartz. did with his body, or what gymnsts can do with years of work, or play in your case. The moral is keep doing what you want and you will get better at it, and better adapted to it (stronger arms and fingers etc.).
On a side note your desire to climb probably stems from a very young age, you were probably jumping around on furnature climbing jungle gyms etc, your probably a middle child, but this is when your parents gave you attention, they were proud of you, you noticed this and continued to do it. People will do what they think will get them positive reinforcement, its more psychological than anything. But keep climbing! I was the same as you at your age and at 24 still climb trees, poles anything that "I think I can." You might want to look into sports as they give you another outlet to express your physical prowess! Hope it helped!

that would be pretty sweet, a human named racoon who was part monkey!
but really, like someone said, its most likely not dormant ancient genes, but you just enjoy climbing, and your genes (not ancient) happened to build you to be better at it.
also, the reason why your so strong is also probably because you are so active, always climbing, and not sitting on your but like some kids playing video games.
keep it up! :)

Not quite how that evolution stuff works...but cool thought. If only I could get those gills to redevelop, I'd be set for life. Mostly just wanted to say how cool it was that no religious wacko rained on this kids enthusiasm yet.

Humans share 85% of their genes with chimps, 50% with dogs, 25% with fruit flies, and 1/3 with daffodils.

Technically, yes... but you are also part dandelion, and part worm.
You like trees. Good. That is probably indicative of most primates.
So, in the long run, "ancient genes" and all that ...not ...exactly.

Nope, you just have a real gift and talent for climbing. Enjoy being who you are--you might grow up to be the next Spiderman (or Raccoonman)!
