⥠Well, there are a lot of reasons someone might not want another's help. Maybe they're embarrased to accept it, OR maybe they are just stubborn and can't accept it. Or maybe they just want to try to do it themeselves, first, before accepting help. OR they could be arrogant and not want it just because. You have to learn the reasons why people reject help in order to help them more sometimes.
In any scenario, i wouldn't give up on them. (it sucks when people give up on you because you're not working on their time schedulle according to what they think you should. IF you were, you probably wouldn't need their help). BUt, i never give up on anyone, ever. Some people just take a little longer than others. And what if you were the last person who gave a crap about them, and they really knew that? Though they might not seem to want it, im sure some times they really do. It's not an easy thing to ask for help. Just because they haven't asked you yet, doesn't mean that they don't need it.
If you give up on them, they may never have hope at all.
I never give up on anyone, there's always hope.

there's a difference between helping and enabling. help is never a waste of time. and no one is garbage to be discarded; by giving up you're essentially saying they are worthless. Help is ok, enabling is not.

God helps those that help themselves. If they won't make the effort to change, why should you? If I know they're whining about a problem just to get attention, I ignore them and usually eventually they give in and come seeking genuine help. But if I know its a pride kind of thing and they really do need my help, I just shove them outta the way and start helping!

I will try to find out from my other friends about the ordeal my friend is going through. Then I'll see if I can help him in anway indirectly, for eg requesting for the teacher to accept his answer if he needed 1 mark more to pass the exam. I'll go up to him and try to comfort him as however I can. I will never give up on my friends...

I would let them know that i'm right there for them and will continue to watch out for them especially. If its something that threatens their or others close to them. Otherwise i would give the space requested.

I would help a friend even if they didn't want my help if they were in serious trouble and couldn't see that they were in it such as into dangerous drugs that fogged their ability to get out of the danger and that sort of thing.

I would back off but stay close, if you know what I mean. At some point they'll need and want the help.

If they absolutely needed the help, I would. If not, giving them space would probably be best.
