River Girl, I'm a Jesus Freak too, but I'm not afraid of Halloween. :)

I can see both ways. If not celebrating Halloween is the stand that he wants to take, then things that seem to scream 'Halloween!' to him are things he will want to avoid. You should respect that, or at least tolerate it. On the other hand, I don't think it's too much to ask to go look at a silly orange spherical object on the ground. He could be picking one out to make pumpkin pie for Halloween as easily as he could be picking out one to make a Jack-o-lantern. Even if he does not pick one out at all, it really doesn't seem to make sense to me why either of you would be upset over him going or not going to a pumpkin patch.

lol. someone said that the person isn't open to the holidays of others. they arent open to the more secular christian holidays. most christian holidays are non christian holidays that have been altered to christian as a means of assimilating the peoples conqured by the romans. so by paying homage to the other christian holidays your friend is by extension paying homage to an older pegan rite as well. all hallowes eve (night before halloween) is the same thing, a pegan holiday that was christianized. so by not going into a pumpkin patch the person is just being silly. their objection is with the representation of the pumpkin once it has been changed into a jack o lantern. the pumpkin patch is full of pumpkins not jack o lanterns and not a represntation of halloween, the occult, the darker side of life or even all hallowes eve, a christian holiday. in the end halloween is one of two harvest holiday. halloween is about sharing your bounty with others that you may or may not know, and yes about the darker side. thanksgiving, which i bet your friend has no problem with, is about sharing your bounty with your family and frieneds

Just ask someone else. We can't change the way they think. l know how you feel since a sister of mine doesn't celebrate a lot of the holidays ordinary people do. They only believe that New Year and their natal day are the only ones worth celebrating.

That's pretty rude. Pumpkins symbolize autumn. If they have faces carved into them THEN they represent Halloween.
They're no fun! Find somebody else to go with you.

You are exactly right. Pumpkins are food. They aren't sold for the sole purpose of being mutilated and thrown away.

A little overly cautious about avoiding being considered a "Halloween person."
