So, I recently got a job at Cinemark. They hired me, and I was doing orientation. Near the end of orientation, they found out I'm 15. So basically I got fired for not being 16. Is there anything I can do about this?

I did not lie at anytime during the hiring process. They did not bother to calculate me age. Plus I'm not being paid for the time I was there doing orientation

The answer would be no. In the U.S., there are two types of laws relating to age and employment. The first (child labor laws) limit the number of hours that minors can work. As such, those laws not only do not prevent "discrimination" against young workers, they actually mandate that "discrimination." The other (the Age Discrimination in Employment Act) forbids discrimination against older workers based on age. It is basically designed to discourage businesses from firing workers at the higher grades of the salary scale or those about to vest for pensions in an effort to cut costs in that fashion. Needless to say the ADEA does not protect younger workers from discharge.

You should have never applied for the position if you were NOT 16! They are allowed to fire you for two reasons; you failed to inform them of your age when applying and when they discovered your age - they could not legally hire you.
Some states, including the one I reside in, are what they call an 'at will' state; meaning, they can let you go for no reason at all and you can't do anything about it. Plus, the employee can leave a job, at any time, with out giving a reason why.
Please, to ease your frustration, do NOT apply for anymore jobs until you are 16.

Businesses are required by state law to prohibit a minor from working certain hours through the business workweek due to school and child labor laws. If you quit school (not recommended) then those laws no longer apply in some states. Discrimination is to be fired or passed over for employment due to your age specifically.

I doubt it. Employers have the option NOT to hire minors. A lot of places won't consider you if you're under 18.
If you're under the age of 18, just make sure to ask what the minimum age to work at a company is before you apply.

It depends on the state you live/work in... but what do you mean "they found out" you're 15? Did you lie on the application? Then they conveniently fired you for lying.

It depends on what the minimum age is to work in your state. They do not let children work to protect them from horrible child labor practices that used to be in effect in this country.

Sorry CJ, yet its corporation coverage. they do no longer hire human beings below sixteen for a reason. particular, you're entitled to value for the time you spent in orientation. besides the shown fact that, you're able to be greater useful off letting it bypass in case you desire to get employed via them once you do turn sixteen. :)

If there is a minimum age for that job, there is nothing you can do. they have child labor laws that have to be followed. It is for the safety of the child.
