I own a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT. It is an old car being that it is a 92. The car had 2 or 3 other owners, not included me. I have treated it very well, and intend to keep it that way. The car is getting up there in miles at 183,000 and something when I go to start the car, it won't start. It tries to start every time though, but it just doesn't catch. I heard that this type of car is known for the engine flooding often. If so, is there a way or something I can do to stop this and allow it to start better and run better, or is it something else, and what can I do to get rid of it so my car runs and starts great everytime.

I love this car and I want to keep it forever and yea, at some point I will hook it up and repair the whole thing to new but Im 23 and in college so I dont have the money for it but I'm afriad the engine will quit on me too soon. Can anyone help?

Since you treat your car well I'm assuming that you've done the routine maintenance on it. In case you haven't try the easier things first. Go ahead and change your spark plugs, wires, and some fuel injection cleaner(it's OK to double up on the fuel injection cleaner dosage since the car is old, unless you've already tried these things). What your doing is a small tune-up. Doing that will eliminate those issues. It sounds like it's not your starting system since it's cranking. It may just need spark to create the explosion in the engine so it can start. So try those things out besides plugs, wires, and fuel injection cleaner aren't that expensive. From there I would take it into a shop unless you have a buddy or yourself that may know some more things to troubleshoot. Another idea since your attending college you should research if your college has a automobile mechanics class and/or check with a community college. Explain your situation to them. They'll do the work for free the one condition is they want to use your car to teach students hands on. So unless your strict about it getting fixed with a auto teacher and students it may work out. But the instructor is a professional mechanic so she/he will know what is wrong with your car. Try it what do you have to lose! Best of Luck!

This car is fuel injected, FYI, so pumping the gas pedal doesn't do anything. However this is a common problem with older engines, especially with your milage. First, take it to a dealer or qualified serivce shop and have its scheduled maintenance done (it will be called a 'major service'). They will replace all filters in the car which will help.
There is a product called bk44 that you put in the gas tank which will clean the fuel injectors and help the overall perfomance including starts.

Hope that helps!

If it is flooding, make sure that you do not pump the gas pedal when starting it . Or if it does not start and is flooded, floor the gas pedal and keep it floored until it does start.

But it might not be flooded. It might be starved for gas and need to be pumped. Or the spark plugs might be old and/or fouled.

Take it to a shop and find out what the problem really is, Ask them to just fix it so it will start and save any other problemsfor later.
