Realistic of course, as all things come to an end eventually. I would add that the USA runs the risk of losing it's relevancy that it once had. Look at the world leaders we elect or just to folks who run for office. Anyone should ask themselves honestly, can any of the candidates in this election honestly and with credibility, lead the free world for the next 4 years and be the voice of freedom and democracy? The idea is laughable! If any of them have the requisite leadership skills (debatable) their integrity and honesty has been sold to contributors many times over. The USA seems in decline, from being the supersized world power with no real competition to keep us honest. This may be a blip, or it may be the final decline; no-one knows for sure. But the great country/democracy of the post-WWII war era is gone. There are no leaders anymore; just talking heads, policy wonks and greenback poliiticians.

sigh, I kinda miss Harry Truman...

Will we loose our superpower status....eventually. I see China taking over as the dominant force in the next century as they will become just as economically developed as the west and has the population to out perform any economy no matter how much we unite currencies. They are not like the Russians, you wont have to worry about liberals bringing down China as they will have emerged from the socialist hell and won't want to go back.

The Persians fell
The Romans fell
The British Empire fell
We will fall, but not far. We will still be around, doing our thing, but somebody else at the UN will be calling the shots

Economic and financial collapses are practically an inevitable part of the cycle. 1929 wasn't the only one, there were major panics in 1873 and 1837 caused by well-intentioned government intervention in an environment of high speculation and inflation and over-extended credit. The resulting economic collapses resulted in years of extremely high unemployment rates & poverty and a few lasted until massive wars shook us out of it...

America is on a revolutionary cycle, though. Its government may appear stable because its under one constitution, but there have been at least three major phases of radically different (revolutionary) interpretations. Because of this, it can change dramatically yet remain intact. Regardless of what happens short of human extinction, people will continue to live here and occupy this space.

That all depends.

To answer this question better, I would highly recommend reading Jared Diamond's Collapse, where he chronicles the environmental collapse of previous civilizations, and also chronicles how some civilizations avoided that kind of collapse.

Furthermore, often that kind of collapse happens to a civilization that thinks that it is at its height.

It is a possibility. Most likely in the form of environmental issues such as lack of clean and drinkable water, deforestation, species eradication, and other issues that combine to make areas uninhabitable.

Collapse? No.
Have a 2nd American Revolution? Yes

There is only so much stupidity that the American people can take before revolting. And bush has just about used up the stupid quota for several presidents.

collapse in what manner? You mean our way of life as it is now? there is a good chance that it will become a 3rd world country when and if someone like Hillary become president. The "progressives" are sure working on the collapse of our free market and will put many more restrictions on business until they are all run by government as well as every aspect of our lives.

Within the next century, basically zero. Unless some cosmic sized event were to happen to the Earth, I can't foresee America collapsing in the next 100 years.

Within the next century?
A little optimistic aren't you?
NAU, SSP, Illegal immigration, lack of American concern for reality, American Government catering to Special interest groups, press one for English, Presidential Candidates sucking up to racist organizations, ( Dems and Republicans sucking up to La Raza),....I'd say we're screwed.

Edit: Anthony C: If you find it could you please E-Mail it to me also. I have been showing friends the correlations between other fallen societies and ours and have also discussed it in classes at the university I attend. Thanks.
