Just so you all know, I tend to lean away from the official story. I only asked this question to try and understand the venom aimed at "9/11 truthers". Not much help here.

I do think it's worth it to disprove them, because otherwise they might get more people to belieive their lies. It might seem as if there's no answer to what they're saying.

However, simple explanations exist for all their claims.

Example:

CLAIM: There were "explosions" that brought down the towers

FACT: There is clear evidence that explosions did not occur because:

1) Reports of explosions being heard are exaggerated.

“NIST reviewed all of the interviews conducted by the FDNY of firefighters (500 interviews) and in addition conducted its own set of interviews with emergency responders and building occupants. Taken as a whole, the interviews did not support the contention that explosives played a role in the collapse of the WTC Towers.”

From Section F of http://www.911proof.com/NIST.pdf

2) Puffs of air have no significance.

Puffs of air are seen all the time in demolitions and therefore they mean nothing.

Structural Engineer Jon Magnussen says it is fairly common phenomenon in building collapses. “You could actually have a collapse starting at the top of the building, and the air could come out of the bottom, going down the elevator shafts. It finds the path of least resistance.” (Pop Mechanics, “Debunking” p.45)

3) There was no seismic evidence of explosions before the collapse

Columbia University has permanent seismographic recorders that were running on 9/11 which clearly show no explosives during the collapse of Towers 1 & 2, or of WTC7 .
See page 2 of
http://www.implosionworld.com/Article-WTC%20STUDY%208-06%20w%20clarif%20as%20of%209-8-06%20.pdf

4) Engineers have proved that the collapse resulted from the impact & the fire. Therefore, there is zero need to invoke bombs. See http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/wtc/

Any group of people who can not realize that a 500,000+ page document does not get written, introduced and passed into law in less than two months probaby are beyond intellectual redemption. They can not see the Patriot Act was already written, waiting for the right conditions to be accepted by the American people. To them it is of no consequence that the company the vice-president stepped down from to run for vice-president is the prime benficiary in this war, with ex-spies and special operatives benefitting as well. They don't realize that George Bush Sr. was head of the CIA during the days of COINTELPRO, when many of the things that the CIA was found doing illegally against the American people then, was made legal by what? The Patriot Act.
I guess these people also don't know that G.W. Bush was in business with Osama's brother, Salam bin Laden. These families go back.
And it never bothered them that Bush belonged to a "secret society" (that generations of his wealthy family have belonged to, among generations of other powerful families) at Yale University (where the rich and powerful send their kids) that he refused to discuss. And it never bothered them no matter who they voted for, if it wa Red or Blue, they were voting for member of this same "secret society."

How can any real American just ignore this stuff?

I don't believe in the 9/11 thing, but I think that if a significant portion of the population wants answers from its government - It should recieve them.

I usually do ignore them. The theories are so full of holes and skewed logic, they are not worth addressing.
