Tropical rainforests are rainforests generally found near the equator.

A tropical rain forest has a higher temperature, and has poor soil. A temperate rain forest has rich, fertile soil and nurse logs, caused by litter on the forest floor. Tropical rainforests are all found between the Tropic lines.

Technically to be considered tropical it must lie between the tropic latitudes of Cancer and Capricorn. Temperate would be a forest meeting certain rainfall requirements that fall outside the tropics. They have them as far North as Alaska.
