"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." -----Theodore Roosevelt

"America must remain American." ----Calvin Coolidge

Also, What do you think the mainstream media would do if President Bush said the exact same words?

English language...how are the liberals ever going to turn us into a third world nation if we all speak the language of prosperity. Not very progressive and I don't believe Comrade Hillary would agree.

Heck, yea!

I know I will get tons of thumbs down, but I also think Christianity should be made our official religion. (We have an official bird, a flag, a motto, etc. so why not?)

Not in order to dis any other religion, or, oppress them, but instead, to send a very strong message to the rest of the world that, "This is who we are, this is what we (as a whole) believe and this is what we will maintain."

Christmas in th classroom and ALL that stuff because THOSE are the beliefs THIS country was founded on and the history of our success indicates that those beliefs ARE the proper ones for US!

true to a certain point. you cannot deny where your ancestors come from because it is where you come from. but yes, immigrant should assimilate to our way of life but still keep their identity. you gotta think that if everyone rejected their birth place and culture to adapt, then we wouldn't have all these great different things here. bring in the best from everywhere, adopt it, and make it work perfectly with all the other things we've taken in.

Its question of degree, would you forbid an English person from following England at the rugby or cricket world cup? Would you forbid a French person from speaking French with his friends in a bar? Why can't we just live and let live. there are too many labels and too many rules. Scrub the inscription off the Statue of Liberty.

you see the problem with this quote is america was a project to let all races, creeds, religions to come over and start a new life. this was a melting pot of all different cultures from the start and should remain that way until the end.
