antarctica has a bunch of resources just waiting there, i bet some country is think about antarctica and the oil there

If we don't move to alternatives by then they probably will. I just hope the ice sheets are still on Antarctica otherwise that would mean sea level is 40 ft. higher.

No. It is too expensive to mine the resources in most of Antarctica because of the conditions and logistics.

If commodity prices get much much higher that will make marginal deposits economic but there are many places like that in areas that are easier than Antarctica. It will really be more economical to develop technology that uses less resources.

Now the Artic is another story. There already is a competition for the resources in the artic with claims of territory to the North pole. There is certainly tension by the people who live in the artic over mining and oil companies coming in to our homes.

Ah but Sigy, won't the cost of extraction go down over time as the technology for location and drilling improves? Eventually, they will probably be fighting over Antarctica. After that, I'll predict they fight over meteors and comets in space.

In fact, at some point (granted we survive) humans will fight over everything that has resources or energy in it. And if we're not fighting other humans for it, we'll be fighting other species.
