Why did they start? Ex: Colonies were mad at Parliament and Britain in turn got angry at them for boycotting, etc.

The first of those is due to the fact that those cities just happened to be stops for the British on there way to Boston and then on to Philly. The minutemen of those cities stepped up and warded them off for the time being. Bunker Hill is actually right next to the harbor leading to the Atlantic Ocean so that is where the British landed hence the Paul revere saying"One if by land two if by sea" meaning torch lights to come from the Old North Church which was one of the highest structures in that part of Boston in that day, still kind of is. You should visit that part of our country I have been to all of these spots and they are all awesome. And yes the underlining issue was the battle with the British because these were all battles of the Revolutionary War.

Read the declaration of independence, it summarizes well why the revolutionary war began.

Often in warfare there are specific targets to battle over. In the Battle of Bunker Hill for example control over Boston Harbor and Charlestown was at stake. Yet most of the fighting did not occur at Bunker Hill. If you recall the Boston tea party, this angered the British. They wanted control of one of the centers of the rebellion.

It is at Bunker Hill where the expression "Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes!" is supposed to have taken place. Although it is disputed as to who said it and if it was indeed said.

the root cause was not slavery, though that is used almost universally as the reason for the war. It was over the rights of states. I would suggest googling The Civil War and going from there. Good luck. Edit: I'm stupid. I should have read the question twice before answering. Anyway, for a cram session, try watching The Patriot with Mel Gibson. It may give you some perspective on the war but don't use it as a source. I have not checked the accuracy of it and cannot vouch for its authenticity. However, we wanted to the right to determine our own destiny, not some monarch back in England doing it for us.
